The Opportunity:

  • Provide patient-focused assessment, intervention, and education for those affected by serious mental illness and substance use disorders across adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
  • Conduct timely triage, assessment, and intervention for moderate to severe mental health and substance use issues.
  • Utilize knowledge of psychiatric presentations, medical co-morbidities, and psychotherapy techniques.

Qualifications:

  • Master's level education and registration with a relevant college (Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, or related field).
  • Experience with substance abuse and concurrent disorders.
  • Certification as an Addictions Counselor (ICADC) is an asset.
  • At least 4 years of clinical experience in mental health or addictions, including case management and counseling.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, and Substitute Decision Maker Act.
  • Familiarity with DSM IV and assessment tools.
  • Experience with pharmacological interventions is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of family dynamics and regional resources.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks related to patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments based on current mental health standards.
  • Provide intervention, therapy, case consultation, and coordinate with family medicine and social services.
  • Work with pharmacological treatments as needed.
  • Maintain clinical records per policy and regulations.
  • Collaborate with family physicians and social agencies.
  • Participate actively as part of a multidisciplinary team and in training and supervision.

Hours of Work: This role may require working weekdays, weekends, and all shifts including days, evenings, and nights, due to hospital operations running 24/7.

Wage: $49.27 - $58.51 per hour
