Mental Health Technician - Hampstead Hospital

Overview

As a member of an interdisciplinary team, you will provide continuous care and supervision of patients to ensure a safe and secure environment.

This position is for our Washington Unit (YASU). On this unit, we provide support to individuals ages 16 to 25 years old who are struggling with a wide variety of mental health and co-occurring disorders. These can include various presentations of depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, PTSD, schizophrenia, and substance abuse. We utilize a milieu-based, structured programming approach, integrating individualized, person-centered care.

Responsibilities

1. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, assist with routine patient care activities including: assisting patients with activities of daily living, obtaining clinical data (vital signs, height and weight, collecting specimens), and performing point of care.
2. Assist in maintaining a clean and safe work environment by keeping the hallways clear of excess equipment and emptying linen bags.
3. Assist visitors and answer telephones.
4. Follow and participate in the patient’s plan of care.
5. Assist with the management of aggressive patients.
6. Assist in monitoring and/or caring for patients who require close observation (suicidal/elopement risks, patients in restraints and/or seclusion).
7. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to establish goals and restrictions of privileges based on the patients' behavior and level of care.
8. Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in mental health or human services-related field preferred.
• Previous experience in healthcare or mental health preferred.
• Excellent communication skills desired with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Complete required Workplace Violence Prevention Training within 6 months of hire.
