Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Human Services or equivalent.
• 2 years’ experience with youth exposed to physical or emotional abuse.
• 1–2 years’ experience with youth having mental health concerns (self-harm, suicidal ideation/attempts).
• Experience with youth programs, residential care, and case management.
• NVCI training completed on hire; driving experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Manage caseload of 1-2 youth.

• Support youth to build healthy relationships with family and community.

Catholic Social Services is currently seeking a full-time (awake overnight) position, 42 hours per week, Mental Health Support Workers in EDMONTON to join our team. Providing excellent client-centered care, you are confident, thoughtful, and motivated to achieve success when supporting others in your community.

One position has a weekly full time schedule of Awake Overnight position 8p-8am. 4 days on, 4 days off. Job application closing date: September 21, 2026.

Overview:

Mistahimaskwa House: This program is for youth 12-19 who have been exposed to substance, physical and mental abuse, sexual exploitation, physical/mental trauma and who also have severe complex mental health needs. Mistahimaskwa/PCC is a program designed to help youth with their mental health needs in a residential setting with extra supports such as; higher ratios of staff and in collaboration with supports from Alberta Health Services who are on site daily. These are youth who currently cannot be supported in other residential setting. With the support from both CSS and AHS, we work clients using harm reduction principles and practices to which promote empowerment and stabilization.

Job Summary:

As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of various strategies, and reporting on the progress of each client. In this position, you will assist in supporting all clients while using a trauma-informed approach. The Mental Health Support Worker creates a safe, warm and positive environment where children/youth feel welcomed and loved. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Managing a caseload of 1-2 youth
• Developing and overseeing service plans for children/youth
• Assisting children and youth in overcoming barriers, and supporting them to develop positive and healthy relationships with their families and communities
• Supporting children and youth through life skills teaching and in-the-moment learning, with a hands-on approach
• Assisting children and youth in attending appointments and successfully participating in their educational placements and/or day programs
• Submitting required program documentation with established time-frames
• Performing basic housekeeping and meal preparation duties
• Other duties as required

What This Job Requires:

• A Diploma/Degree in Human Services (or equivalent)
• A minimum of two (2) years of experience working with children/youth who have been exposed to physical and/or emotional abuse.
• A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of experience working with youth who experience mental health concerns such as; self-harm, suicidal ideations and/or attempts.
• Experience with children and family programming, youth in care, residential care, and case management is a requirement of this position.
• Certification or training in Aboriginal Awareness, Abuse Awareness, Standard First Aid, Medication Administration, and Violence/Crisis Intervention is a definite asset.

The ideal candidate will have an organized and compassionate approach to the work, strong teamwork skills, a commitment to developing positive supporting relationships, and experience supporting families. Other qualifications include:

• Proven ability to provide effective communication, collaboration, crisis intervention, and conflict management with clients
• Experience with or willingness to be trained on physical holds on the individuals that we serve.
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI) must be completed upon hire
• Demonstrated assessment, problem solving, and critical thinking skills
• Knowledge of community resources is an asset
• Intermediate competency with Microsoft Office and other Agency computer applications
• Demonstrated ability to act with professionalism, confidentiality, and diplomacy
• Proven case documentation and effective information reporting practices
• Police Information Check including vulnerable sector search, Intervention Record Check current within six (6) months
• 2 Years of Driving experience will be an asset
