We have an exciting relief full-time opportunity for a Mental Health Substance Use (MHSU) Counselling & Treatment Clinician to join our high-functioning and well-integrated Mental Health and Substance Use Integrated Treatment Team (ITT) at the Penticton Health Centre in beautiful and sunny Penticton, B.C.

This relief position is until the return of the incumbent.

What will you work on?

This position supports the South Okanagan (SOK) MHSU Integrated Treatment Team (ITT), which provides flexible and discreet treatment for individuals experiencing difficulties with substance use through virtual and in-person therapy options. The team focuses on care coordination and an interdisciplinary approach.

The Counselling & Treatment Clinician functions as a member of the larger Hospitals & Communities Integrated Services (HCIS) healthcare team and a specific MHSU multi-disciplinary team. The purpose is to ensure access to timely, responsive, evidence-based short-term treatment and clinical supports for persons with serious acute mental health problems and/or problematic substance use issues, including clients with co-occurring disorders and serious functional impairments.

The Clinician provides, at an advanced practice level, assessment, treatment, service coordination, and urgent response when required, for the most complex clients. They utilize a variety of specialized treatment modalities/therapies for individuals, groups, and families.

Some Typical Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provides comprehensive bio/psycho/social services to optimize clients’ recovery and functioning.
  • Arranges access to specialized services such as substance use, forensic/criminal justice, developmental disability, and acquired brain injury.
  • Ensures transition plans are in place for clients transferring between levels of care, including hospital admission/discharge planning and follow-up.
  • Documents assessments, treatment plans, care plans, and progress notes.
  • Provides consultation and shares information with community agencies and the public about mental health and substance use services, promoting good relations.
  • Delivers and participates in educational programs as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Scheduling Information

Workdays are Monday to Friday, from 08:30 to 16:30 hours.
