Position: Mental Health Diversion / Court Support Worker

Location: Kenora District Court Program, CMHA Kenora Branch

Employment: Full-Time 12-Month Contract

Overview:

The Mental Health Diversion / Court Support Worker reports to the CEO of Canadian Mental Health Association Kenora Branch. The role involves working as part of a team, participating in peer supervision, and collaborating with related roles such as the Dual Diagnosis Court Diversion / Court Support Worker, Forensic Case Manager, Rent Supplement Housing Case Manager, and attending supervision with the CEO.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in social work or equivalent; MSW preferred, regulated through OCSWSSW
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system and the Mental Health Act, obtained through training or experience
  • Understanding of mental health issues and developmental disabilities
  • Strong screening, assessment, and advocacy skills
  • Knowledge of community resources and ability to build community linkages
  • Ability to work independently and with diverse populations
  • Computer literacy and record-keeping skills

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to organizational policies and maintain confidentiality
  • Screen clients for diversion or court support services
  • Coordinate with criminal justice and community resources
  • Arrange psychiatric appointments for clients in detention or community
  • Develop and monitor treatment and service plans
  • Provide supportive counseling and advocacy
  • Collaborate with community supports and resources
  • Educate clients, families, and communities
  • Provide information to judiciary, Crown, and Defense counsel
  • Maintain client files and coordinate referrals
  • Report and document program data and participate in meetings and training
  • Ensure safety and compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
