Job Description

Salary Range: $45.201 - $56.503

Position Summary:

As an instrumental member of the Mental Health Program, the Mental Health Clinician must be able to provide direct and indirect patient care including assessments of patients’ physical, emotional, cognitive, and behaviour skills. The Clinician responds to referrals and consultations by assessing patients and developing safety and other treatment plans; identify problem areas; establish measureable goals and objectives for patients. The clinician will implement treatment as needed and document all findings, interventions, and outcomes. The Mental Health Clinician may provide care to patients in the Outpatient Clinic, Day Hospital program and Inpatient Mental Health unit. The Mental Health Clinician will participate in multidisciplinary rounds and discharge planning as well as liaising with community agencies for services required post discharge. The Mental Health Clinician will lead psychotherapy and psycho educational groups with other professions, and at times individual psychotherapy and psychoeducational sessions with patients. The successful incumbent must have experience working with patients who have varying diagnoses and symptoms associated with mental illness. The Mental Health Clinician works to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

** One (1) full-time Mental Health Clinician position to work Monday through Friday.

Skills and Qualifications:

Successful completion of secondary school required

  • Successful candidates will hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Psychotherapy, or related areas
  • Candidates must be registered with an approved Regulated Health Profession College (Social Work, Occupational Therapist, Psychotherapy)
  • Must have extensive experience providing evidence based psychotherapy interventions i.e. CBT, DBT etc.
  • Must have extensive experience organizing and facilitating group therapy treatment i.e. CBT, DBT etc.
  • Must have a good understanding of current legislation related to; Mental Health Act, Healthcare Consent Act, Substitute Decisions Act and Privacy Act.
  • Excellent mental health assessment skills and ability to conduct and document formal biopsychosocial assessments
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with patients, families, and community-based resources
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative team model that includes the patient, family, and other care givers
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work independently are necessary
  • Demonstrates and role models an awareness of and commitment to personal and professional development
  • Keyboarding and Meditech knowledge would be a definite asset
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis is required
