Job description

The Community Child and Adolescent Treatment Services offers community-based mental health services to children, adolescents and their families. In addition to the treatment modalities mentioned above therapy services include the following screening / assessment; critical incident intervention; acute treatment and consultation; systems consultation and community education. These services are provided through a range of human service disciplines. Service is determined according to the needs of the client and family. The setting and duration of treatment will also vary according to client / family need. Easy access to service is promoted via flexible work schedules. At times service may be provided through partnership with other community agencies.

MAIN FUNCTION :

The Mental Health Clinician is responsible for the delivery of direct client service including the following : assessment, implementation and evaluation of clinical services to clients / families; clinical case management; establishment of effective working relationships with clients, families, supervisors, colleagues, and other agencies. These functions are undertaken in accordance with the Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre’s Mission Statement, organizational policies and procedures, Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics as outlined by the incumbent’s professional licensing body.

Experience

  • 4-5 years’ experienceworking-with children, youth and families.
  • Experience and training in treatment models related to developmental trauma and / orattachment.
  • Experience and training in any of the following : group treatments with parents and children, DBT, CBT are assets.
  • Experience working with diverse cultural groups including First Nations and Newcomersis desirable.

Education (Degree / Diploma / Certificate)

  • Master’s degree in a relevant health discipline from an accredited education institution required.

Certification / Licensure / Registration

  • Active member in good standing of an associated regulatory body as appropriate.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Skill / training and demonstrated skill in several of the following areas : clinical assessment, individual, group, family therapy, systems intervention, mental health promotion activities.
  • Commitment to working with families from diverse backgrounds with approaches that maximize accessibility.
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships and to work within a multi-disciplinary team of community-based organizations, child welfare, health, and educational systems.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development, and mental health issues in childhood and adolescence including suicide risk assessments and risk management.
  • Knowledge of, community-based mental health service delivery, culturally competent practice, and the bio psychosocial approach to mental health are desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of trauma and its impact, including the effects of colonization and intergenerational trauma on children, youth and their families.
  • Understanding and appreciation of impact of our history related to colonization and outcomes from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission including its Calls to Action.
