Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Registered Psychiatric Nurse OR Registered Nurse to join the Psychiatry Inpatient team at Sechelt Hospital in Sechelt, BC. Apply today to join our team!

As a Mental Health and Substance Use Nurse with VCH, you will:

  1. Provide individualized direct nursing care, discharge planning, and case coordination services to clients with severe and persistent mental illness, concurrent disorders, and/or dementia, responsible for clinical practice and client-centered rehabilitation.
  2. Enhance the quality of life of clients and their families.
  3. Perform physical and psychosocial rehabilitation assessments.
  4. Collaborate with other healthcare providers and family members to develop, implement, evaluate, and modify treatment plans.
  5. Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships based on respect.
  6. Administer prescribed medications, monitor responses, and educate clients and families on medication use and side effects.
  7. Maintain accurate client records according to standards.
  8. Participate in team meetings, planning, and quality improvement activities, and keep your knowledge current.

Sechelt is located on the traditional territories of the shíshálh (Sechelt) Nation, approximately 50 km northwest of Vancouver. About Sechelt Hospital:

Sechelt Hospital is a 46-bed acute care facility serving over 30,000 residents. It provides services including emergency care, dialysis, mental health and substance use services, surgical services, birthing, and imaging.

Education & Experience:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • At least 6 weeks or 240 hours of clinical practicum in a mental health setting, with coursework or equivalent experience.

Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of mental health, substance use, harm reduction, and relevant legislation.
  • Understanding of person and family-centered care, trauma-informed care, recovery models, and psychosocial rehabilitation.
  • Ability to perform assessments, develop care plans, and intervene appropriately.
  • Skills in conflict management, documentation, and mentoring.

The hours may vary based on operational needs. All health workers must report their vaccination history as per Ministry policy.
