Position Overview

As a vital member of our interdisciplinary team, the primary function of the Mental Health & Addiction Counsellor II will be to provide individual and group therapy, psychoeducational material, and ongoing assessment of progress to clients. Case coordination and communication across an inter-professional team is an integral component of the role. Additionally, the Mental Health and Addiction Counsellor is responsible for communicating with referral agencies, offering support and guidance to clients and their families.

Job Overview

  • Provision of individual treatment, education, and ongoing assessment of progress to the patients using evidence-based modalities including cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), mindfulness, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), interpersonal therapy, and trauma-informed care.
  • Facilitation of abstinence-based, relapse prevention individual and group-based education and process-based content.
  • Identification of treatment goals with patients, coordinating across broader clinical teams on a weekly basis
  • Delivery of high quality psychoeducational and process groups using evidence-based modalities.
  • Case coordination and communication across an inter-professional team both within the company and with external providers.
  • Collaboration with other stakeholders in the development, implementation and follow-up of the patient’s aftercare plan including referrals to abstinence-based recovery programs (e.g., AA, CA, NA, SMART, etc.). Prepare comprehensive discharge summaries and referent reports in timely manner.
  • Completion of detailed documentation and charting appropriately and in a timely manner in accordance with relevant College standards.
  • Liaise with patient’s family, referral sources, community providers, EAP representatives, case managers and other members of the circle of care on a regular and timely basis.
  • Engage in personal and professional development, maintain appropriate professional associations, and provide current documentation to the Human Resources Department.
  • Undertake Quality Assurance (QA) activities as assigned including completion of outcome measures.
  • Other duties as assigned, including providing coverage in other programs as required.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree program in Counselling or Social Work
  • Current registration with a regulated professional College (i.e., college of Social Workers, Canadian Certified Counsellor, etc.)
  • Minimum three-five years of clinical experience
  • Understanding of First responder trauma and how to effectively deal with vicarious trauma effectively an asset
  • Professional experience with individuals experiencing concurrent disorders, such as mood and anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, acute stress disorders, and PTSD.
  • Background in or willingness to train for EMDR, PET, and CPT.
  • CBT and DBT certification considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the DSM-V, including substance use disorders.
