Job summary

Cygnet is seeking a part-time Mental Health Act Administrator to support the legal requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 at Cygnet St Williams. The role involves complex administrative duties across hearings, audits, and liaison with hospital teams.

The successful candidate will have healthcare administration experience, strong MS Office skills, and knowledge of MHA 1983. DBS check is required, with a salary of £29,110 per annum pro rata appropriate to 24 hours per week, plus benefits.

Qualifications

  • Admin experience in a healthcare setting is essential.
  • GCSE English and Maths are required.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA 1983) is preferred.
  • Experience preparing reports and liaising with professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Scrutinise section papers and ensure paperwork is complete and amend as needed.
  • Maintain diaries and spreadsheets with hearings listings.
  • Notify all parties about report deadlines and hearing dates.
  • Chase up reports for Tribunal and Managers Hearings.
  • Coordinate with Hospital Managers for their attendance at hearings.
  • Assist Tribunal Clerk with room setup, paperwork, and visitor liaison.
  • Data input of sections within Mental Health Act spreadsheets.
  • Complete Mental Health Act audits using the corporate template.
  • Adapt to new protocols for Tribunals and Managers Hearings in response to COVID-19.
  • Liaise with external agencies and the MDT within the hospital.

We are currently recruiting for a Mental Health Act Administrator who will be working 24 hours a week, to support the legal requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 atCygnet St Williams.

This is a 12 bed Neuropsychiatric service offering care and treatment to those affected by acquired brain injuries. It is a safe and secure place to aid recovery as well as offering those diagnosed with a progressive neurological disease, like Huntington’s Disease, a caring and longer term placement to support and help manage the progression of their symptoms.

Your day-to-day…
  • Scrutinising section papers and checking that relevant paperwork is present and correct –reporting any areas which require amendment
  • Ensuring that diaries and spreadsheets are updated with listings of hearings
  • Notifying all parties concerned regarding report deadlines and dates of hearings
  • Chasing up reports for all Tribunal and Managers Hearings
  • Contacting Hospital Managers and arranging their attendance at Hearings
  • Assist the Tribunal Clerk when required todoso, ensuring that the room is set up, paperwork available and collecting visitors from reception and to liaise with the Tribunal panel in the absence of the Clerk
  • Data input of Section within the Mental health Act spreadsheet
  • Complete Mental Health Act Audits using Corporate Template for All Wards.
  • Adapt to changes in organising new protocols for Tribunals and Managers Hearing in response to COVID – 19
  • Liaise with external Agencies & the Multi-disciplinary Team within the Hospital setting
We are looking for people who have
  • Previous administration experience including report preparation, organising meetings, liaising with customers/clients
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent) with qualifications in English and Maths
  • Exceptional organisational skills
  • Experience of working in a Healthcare environment alongside medical practitioners is desirable
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA 1983)
  • Knowledge of compliance and auditing systems required by regulatory bodies (CQC)
