Who are we?

The Achieve Professional Development Group. is a local non-profit that aims to educate and connect entrepreneurs and industry professionals in Hamilton and surrounding areas. Newly established in July 2024, Achieve provides tools that Hamilton professionals can utilize to learn, network, grow and be inspired within the community.

Achieve provides access to various industries including entrepreneurship, local business ownership, tradesmen, not-for-profit leaders and corporate executives. Achieve’s firm belief in collaboration and communication emphasizes the importance of knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and networking.

We aim to create a community of sharing, learning and growth among entrepreneurs, business owners and industry professionals. The organization will provide the needed resources to work, learn, and grow in a supportive community through networking and professional development workshops and networking events, seminars and conferences.

What are we looking for?

The board of directors represents the interests of the organization and its stakeholders. The board provides guidance and advice to an organization's executive team.

We would love to hear from you if you are interested in being part of a dynamic group passionate about learning, networking and working with an ambitious team. Board members should have an interest and general knowledge of the Hamilton business community.

The Board is a diverse group of leaders with various complementary skill sets. To further enhance its collective skill sets, the Board is looking for a member with 2 years experience working within the not-for-profit sector and/or a board of director setting.

However, all applications will be considered.

We are looking for individuals with the following experience: fundraising, marketing & communications, bylaws, grants & governance, accounting & financial responsibility, member/community engagement, and diversity & equality management. Board members' terms are 2 years minimum.

Each board member is expected to

  • know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs as well as understand its collective purpose prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings.
  • Meetings will be held monthly with a minimum of 6 in-person meetings throughout the year.
  • Read and understand the organization’s financial statements and board materials in advance of meetings
  • Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization
  • Fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission
  • Help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization’s fundraising, objectives and mission.
  • Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings
  • participate fully in one or more committees or task forces
  • engage in learning opportunities to better understand the community we serve
  • respect the experiences of all who bring their voices and lived experiences into the boardroom and the organization
  • Integrity and confidentiality
  • Board Members are calso expected to join one committee of the organization, with committee meetings typically occurring bi-weekly.
