Job Summary And Requirements

This posting will be used to fill 1 (one) term full-time position working 75 hours bi-weekly to March 31, 2027. It will establish a 12-month eligibility list which may be used to fill any anticipatory full-time permanent positions.

This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.

Our team

The Medical Travel Program is a legislated travel program within Insured Health Services and is just one of the many different medical travel programs in the Yukon. Our program helps assist clients who do not fall under any of the other programs such as, NIHB, FEDS, RCMP, and WCB, and require medical insured services that are not available in one’s home community. The Medical Travel Program works closely with other units within Insured Health including Hospital Claims, Physician Claims, Registration, Pharmacare, and Chronic Disease, and other health care providers.

Your role

As a Medical Travel officer with the Insured Health Medical Travel Program, you will help administer the program in a very strong collaborative team environment, while assisting clients with their medical travel needs in a client focused approach in a very fast paced environment.

Your role is responsible for the administration and delivery of the Medical Travel Program according to the provisions set out in the Yukon Travel for Medical Treatment Act, regulations and program policies. The position receives all applications for medical travel, both in and out of Yukon, for required medical services; books the travel; processes medical travel subsidies when eligible; and authorizes payment and invoicing of non-residents for emergency air medevac services prepaid by Yukon.

Essential Qualifications

  • Post-secondary certification or diploma in business administration, office administration, or related field.
  • Experience working within and interpreting legislation.
  • Experience processing applications; reviewing, assessing and determining eligibility based on current legislation/acts/policy/directives.
  • Experience using a variety of computer programs including database programs.
  • Experience with medical terminology.
  • Experience booking travel would be considered an asset.

You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted:

  • WHMIS 2015.

Job Requirements

This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:

  • Works in an office setting, exposure to Video Display Terminal (VDT) at least 70% of the time, potential of exposure to emotional, angry, and/or dissatisfied clients, and is subject to frequent interruptions and multi-tasking.
