Job description

Our client, a division of the Government of Alberta is seeking aMedical Transcriptionistto support a contract position fromMay 12 to approximately June 6, 2025.

This position involves transcribing, editing, and proofreading doctors’ dictated notes and reports. The content can be graphic or of a sensitive nature, requiring a candidate who can handle such material with professionalism, accuracy, and strict confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transcribe, edit, and proofread dictated medical reports,using a computer-based central dictation system.
  • Edit and finalize speech-to-text generated documents for accuracy, clarity, grammar, and correct medical terminology.
  • Manage electronic file systems including downloading, archiving, and arranging files for priority case management.
  • Prepare accurate draft reports based on dictations and occasionally reference handwritten notes.
  • Index toxicology reports and distribute to appropriate internal personnel.
  • Process and apply extensive amendments and revisions to reports as directed by pathologists.
  • Utilize medical, pathology, microscopic, and neuropathology terminology accurately in all documentation.
  • Prioritize and manage high work volumes and urgent tasks efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality, particularly with sensitive or graphic case information.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Medical Transcriptionist Certificateand strong proficiency in transcribing, spelling, grammar, and medical-legal terminology.
  • Strong medical vocabulary, particularly in pathology and forensic terminology.
  • Proficiency inMicrosoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)and familiarity withWindows 2007/2010 applications.
  • Experience with interoffice medical case management software (e.g.,MEDIC) or comparable applications is preferred.
