Job Overview:

The Blood Bank Medical Technologist performs routine and complex patient/sample pre-analytical and post-analytical compatibility tests using automated and non-automated methods, proficiency tests, quality control, preventative maintenance per established policies and procedures. Responsibilities include transporting blood products, specimen tubes, and supplies; performing donor medical interviews; and conducting whole blood and donor apheresis procedures.

Qualifications:
  • BA/BS Degree in Medical Technology or related science
  • 2 to 3 years clinical laboratory experience
  • 2-3 years Blood Bank experience

Preferred: National Certification

  • Weekend/Holidays required
Essential Functions:
  • Perform testing as per standard operating procedures, maintain desired turn-around times, troubleshoot issues, and interact with medical staff.
  • Assist in training and orienting new staff and students.
  • Perform and document Quality Control and proficiency testing, resolve failures promptly.
  • Ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and quality control of instruments, and troubleshoot testing issues.
  • Communicate problems to supervisors and oversee technical operations in their absence.
  • Demonstrate leadership, problem-solving skills, and accept constructive feedback.
  • Promote excellence and staff development within the section.
