Job Overview: The Blood Bank Medical Technologist performs routine and complex patient/sample pre-analytical and post-analytical compatibility tests using automated and non-automated methods, proficiency tests, quality control, preventative maintenance per established policies and procedures. Provides accurate and reliable analytical results necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Maintains inventory of supplies, reagents, and blood products. Maintains non-analytic equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, cell washers, and centrifuges.

Essential Functions:
Assists in training and orienting new lab employees, hospital employees, and students.
Performs quality control and documents it as scheduled, resolving all QC failures with immediate corrective actions. Performs proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples and documents it accurately.
Ensures the integrity and appropriate use of all IT systems. Uses information systems to accurately enter or modify data, results, comments, and to monitor testing times and results.
Ensures all instruments are properly calibrated, maintained, and quality-controlled before analyzing patient samples. Institutes corrective actions when needed. Troubleshoots testing issues and communicates problems to supervisors or designees. Provides oversight during the absence of the supervisor.
Demonstrates leadership skills and supports staff development. Handles stressful situations with problem-solving and empathy. Accepts feedback and promotes excellence within the section.
