RESPONSIBILITIES: JOB PURPOSE:
As a Medical Science Liaison (MSL), you will be responsible for applying your non-promotional medical expertise to ensure the safe and effective use of GSK’s products. This involves impactful scientific interactions and supporting key external and internal stakeholders in line with the therapeutic area Medical Plan. In this role, you will collaborate with field partners in a stakeholder-centric approach to provide credible scientific and clinical information about our vaccines to healthcare professionals, external experts, organizations, and decision-makers, consistent with GSK’s principles for scientific engagement. This is a field-based position requiring frequent travel within Ontario East and Atlantic Canada.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
You will be expected to:
- Identify, establish, and maintain scientific peer-to-peer relationships with key external experts by presenting balanced scientific data, supporting advanced medical educational opportunities, and providing scientific support in accordance with industry standards, GSK values, policies, standards, laws, and regulations.
- Be recognized as the scientific field-based partner in the territory, maintaining a deep understanding of diseases, vaccines, treatments, and the competitive landscape to facilitate excellent scientific dialogue and clinical knowledge translation aligned with business strategy.
- Engage and provide value to a range of stakeholders (external experts, healthcare professionals, investigators, professional societies, advocacy groups, decision-makers) in a non-promotional manner, responding to unsolicited inquiries.
- Act as a proactive, solutions-oriented partner, serving as the primary interface between the healthcare community and GSK's internal teams to gather and share insights that inform current and future strategies.
- Represent GSK at scientific congresses by leading external expert engagement, providing session coverage, staffing booths, and contributing to scientific summaries and share-backs.
- Provide scientific training to GSK commercial colleagues regarding GSK products and the conditions they treat, using approved sales training materials.
- Assist the medical, clinical, and HEOR teams with evidence generation projects and support the identification of potential clinical trial sites in Canada as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED:
- Excellent scientific and medical discussion skills in English (fluent written and verbal communication).
- An advanced postgraduate scientific degree (MD, Ph.D., PharmD).
- Residence within Ontario is mandatory.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a focus on cross-functional teamwork and strategic execution of the medical affairs plan aligned with business strategy within your territory.
- Knowledge of regulations governing medical information exchange with healthcare professionals in Canada.
- Sound negotiation, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with Canadian reimbursement processes.
- A valid driver’s license is required for this field-based role.
- Ability to travel throughout the territory up to 70%, including evenings and weekends.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3-5+ years of experience in a medical affairs role, preferably field-based, with established networks in cardiology, endocrinology, or nephrology.
