Astellas Pharma Canada (APCA) is seeking a Medical Science Liaison, reporting to the Head TA Specialty MA-Canada.

Description

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) acts as a field scientific/medical expert, facilitating non-promotional scientific exchange and translating knowledge into value for patients aligned with Astellas’ strategy. The role involves implementing regional medical/scientific tactics to support in-line and development compounds within the Therapeutic Area (TA) Medical Strategic Plan.

Stakeholder Relationship Activities:

  • Develop and execute a Stakeholder Identification and Engagement Plan aligned with the TA Medical Affairs strategy and business priorities.
  • Build trusted relationships with medical stakeholders to deliver scientific/medical value and improve patient care.
  • Represent Astellas Medical Affairs at provincial HTA and payer meetings, coordinating resources and clinical input for collaborations.
  • Understand the medical, healthcare, HTA, and payer landscape, and develop a regional plan to address gaps in collaboration with colleagues.

Research Support Activities:

  • Collaborate with Research Operations to identify and understand research site capabilities.
  • Identify investigators for upcoming research based on study criteria.
  • Conduct regional profiling and communicate insights.
  • Provide TA expertise at study sites as needed, supporting investigator-sponsored research and understanding medical landscape changes.
  • Interpret and communicate stakeholder insights to shape medical strategy.
  • Support scientific meetings, internal training, and other medical activities.
  • Develop content for strategic activities, ensuring the voice of the customer is represented.

Non-Promotional Scientific Exchange Activities:

  • Present scientific data at various venues to stakeholders including physicians, pharmacists, and committees.
  • Discuss approved scientific information regarding Astellas products and disease management.
  • Identify speakers and develop content for regional medical education events.
  • Lead development of non-promotional medical materials to meet TA needs.

Medical/Governance Expertise:

  • Maintain scientific expertise on TA diseases and Astellas products, including competitor products.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to support business needs.
  • Understand and adhere to Medical Governance frameworks, SOPs, and guidelines.
  • Ensure all activities comply with governance and ethical standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced scientific degree (Ph.D., PharmD, MD, MSc.) in a healthcare or scientific discipline, with at least 2 years’ industry experience, preferably in Medical Affairs.
  • Minimum two years of field-based pharmaceutical medical experience.
  • High-level scientific expertise, knowledge of Canadian healthcare, HTA, payer systems, and health economics.
  • Strong strategic thinking, business acumen, and ability to operate with urgency.
  • Effective in matrix organizations, with excellent interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Independent project management skills within timelines.
  • Familiarity with clinical trial processes, regulatory policies, and GCP guidelines.
  • Complex problem-solving skills and ability to manage travel (up to 40%).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, fluency in English and French.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior MSL and Women’s Health experience is an asset.
  • Experience in healthcare environments and remote work management.
  • Understanding of external/internal guidelines related to Medical Affairs.

Working Environment:

  • This position is field-based in Quebec, preferably residing in the Montreal area.
