Job description

Your Opportunity:

This position reports to the Diagnostic Imaging Radiation Safety Manager and is responsible for maintaining a quality control program within the Department of Diagnostic Imaging (DI) under the guidance of the medical physicist and AHS Radiation Inspection Agency (RIA). In addition to the Quality Control (QC) technologist’s home site, this position also provides quality control services to assigned/additional AHS sites as required. Working closely with a varied group of individuals, the QC technologist will ensure that the DI equipment functions in a safe and effective manner. Additionally, the QC technologist works in conjunction with technology management in regard to DI equipment service and installation by providing expertise in the areas of image quality, radiation safety, equipment safety and applications. The QC technologist will actively assist with Risk Management to provide Safety and Quality Improvement activities as required by the sites’ needs. This positions home site is preferred to be Grande Prairie but is negotiable within the north zone.

As a Medical Radiation Technologist (MRT) III, you will be responsible for the operational supervision of a staff team and work processes of a radiology department or program/function. You will act as the lead Clinical Preceptor for MRT students and primary liaison to the area Radiologist. Your work can include establishing and maintaining adequate levels of supplies and materials for the department and administering quality control assurance programs.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited Medical Radiation Technologist (MRT) program. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years of previous experience in a relevant radiation field; experience with quality control activities would be an asset. Demonstrates good interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills, proven organization skills. Must be reliable, alert, accurate, capable of working independently and with a team possessing good judgment and initiative. Experience working in specialized areas such as, CT, IR and teaching is an asset. Travel outside the city or zone will be required for equipment support and training.

Strong quality mindset including safety champion, just culture, and lean/six sigma principles. Strong leadership capability with demonstrated ability to work effectively with all staff. Promotes collaborative decision-making processes and excellent interpersonal communication skills. Expertise in risk analysis and crisis management with creativity and vision to anticipate problems and solutions. Working knowledge of computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Email, Calendar, internet.
