Qualifications

Under the direction of the Clinic Operations Leader, the Medical Photographer will perform medical photography while maintaining patient safety practices. You will also liaise with other clinic staff, physicians and administrators to ensure effective delivery of our services

The Medical Photographer will work closely with colleagues, patients, students, and partners to provide service in a timely and efficient manner while adhering to our TELUS Health Care Centre standards, and professional practice standards.

The Medical Photographer will be responsible for operating specialized dermatoscopic imaging equipment designed to capture high-resolution images of moles and other skin lesions. By mapping, and documenting these skin features, the photographer plays a vital role in supporting the early detection and prevention of skin abnormalities, including melanoma and other types of skin cancer. This position requires a meticulous approach to imaging and data management, ensuring that all captured information is accurate and complete for clinical evaluation.

In addition to technical expertise, the photographer will work closely with dermatologists to provide essential data that informs diagnostic decisions and treatment planning. They will also interact directly with patients, guiding them through the mole mapping process, addressing concerns, and ensuring their comfort and confidence throughout the procedure. This role is integral to maintaining high standards of patient care, operational efficiency, and collaboration within the healthcare team, ultimately contributing to improved patient outcomes and early intervention opportunities.

What you'll do

  • Responsible for patient photography; positions patients to be photographed
  • Works independently as well as in a team environment in the completion of responsibilities
  • Provides training to other medical photographers
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient/client & employee information
  • Effectively communicates with a wide variety of people through photographic processes and activities and in the completion of work
  • Responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting photographic equipment and following procedures, maintenance and servicing procedures

What you bring

  • Understanding of all current photographic equipment, medical photography equipment, and knowledge in the use of all photographic formats
  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of digital photography and computer-aided photo image enhancement and software
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to give and receive clear and concise direction
  • Possess problem solving skills
  • The successful candidate will be a passionate and empathetic individual who believes in patient-first care. Demonstrated team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills required to work with a wide variety of interdisciplinary team members and families

Education

  • Post-secondary diploma / certification (along with 3 - 5 years of equivalent experience)
  • Professional accreditation or certification


Equivalent Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or applied diploma in Photography or Visual Arts preferred (2 - 5 years experience working in audiovisual / photography services) - Preferred


Additional Qualifications

  • Experience in clinical or forensic photography preferred
  • Medical terminology course or familiarity preferred
  • Certificate in Melanography preferred


Demonstrated proficiency at the Associate Photographer level. Prior experience in the medical, scientific, or corporate environment is preferred. Possess a thorough understanding of all current photographic equipment, including medical photography equipment, and knowledge in the use of all photographic formats. Demonstrated in-depth understanding of computer-aided photo image enhancement is essential. Demonstrated understanding of photographic lighting and techniques for effective and detailed imaging. Ability to give and receive clear and concise direction and possess problem solving skills.

Salary Range: $24-$36

Performance Bonus or Sales Incentive Plan: 10%

Actual total compensation will be determined based on factors such as knowledge, skills, performance, experience and location. Additionally, TELUS offers rewarding benefits, which may vary per job function, such as:
