Medical Office Assistant - Interventional Department

Overview:
The Medical Office Assistant (MOA) in the Interventional Department will support the radiologists and fellows in both Interventional Radiology and Interventional Neuro Radiology by ensuring smooth workflow and minimizing interruptions. The MOA will be the face and voice of the department, providing courteous, and helpful service to doctors, patients, and other members of the healthcare team.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure physician's productivity by maintaining the clinical calendar & scheduling patient appointments.
- Maintaining up-to-date electronic patient records. Experience and skill with Cerner is an asset.
- Document scanning and filing.
- Filing and responding to incoming electronic faxes, which include test results, referral letters, pharmacy communications, etc.
- Patient education and coordination of patient visits for clinic appointments.
- Timely return of phone calls with appropriate and diligent documentation.
- Flexibility to change schedules when required.
- Maintaining good working relationships with referring office medical office assistants.
- Coordinating patient referrals to other specialists.
- Ability to thoroughly assess and submit bookings and consults. Maintaining a positive professional relationship with all booking staff.
- Corresponding with other physicians on behalf of the radiologist.
- Support and onboarding of Clinical Fellows within the department.
- Is flexible and proactive in suggesting improvements for workflow and efficiency.
- Participate in special projects as required.
Qualifications:
- MOA Certification or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in a medical clinic or hospital setting, or comparable environment.
- Knowledge in medical terminology.
- A client-focused approach, with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with members of the public and other healthcare professionals in a tactful manner.
- Excellent organizational skills and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and follow through on tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to keep important and sensitive information confidential at all times.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively solve problems (independently seek out solutions) and/or have the confidence to ask questions.
- Thorough and professional in all aspects of work.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel.
- Comfortable learning new software and workflows. Knowledge of tools like Lightning Bolt, Cerner EMR and PACS is beneficial.
