We have an opportunity for a Medical Manager SMD to join our Medical Affairs Neuroscience team. In this role, you will drive medical activities, lead the development and execution of the designated therapeutic area Medical Affairs strategies and tactics, while establishing the direction of a team of 'peer expert' Medical Advisors and Medical Sciences Liaisons.

Key responsibilities:

  • Establish vision, strategy, and goals for the team aligned with clinical gaps, medical, and brand strategies.
  • Optimize resource utilization to lead, develop, and coach the team, including overseeing performance management, professional development, and succession planning.
  • Maintain regulatory and compliance best practices, ensuring results delivery while protecting AbbVie's reputation.
  • Manage the budget for the relevant therapeutic area, including local clinical studies, as approved in the medical plan.
  • Supervise the design of local clinical studies and review, approve, and fulfill Investigator Initiated Studies contracts.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with key clinical investigators and external experts in the relevant therapeutic area.
  • Supervise the execution of Medical Affairs tactics such as satellite symposia, advisory boards, annual consultation plans, publication plans, and medical support for Commercial Divisions, in accordance with local procedures.
  • Develop and execute a field-based medical plan for marketed products, ensuring scientific support throughout the product lifecycle and analyzing clinical trends to develop supporting strategies.
  • Gather and share competitive intelligence to inform development programs and marketed products.
  • Coordinate with other Medical Managers across affiliates to ensure standardization and consistency.
  • Identify opportunities to align clinical resources nationally, minimize costs, and increase efficiencies, managing an operating budget.
  • Collaborate on stakeholder engagement plans with cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain up-to-date scientific knowledge of assigned therapeutic areas, products, and key external data.

Qualifications

Education/Experience required:

  • Doctorate or MD preferred in a scientific discipline.
  • Relevant experience with solid knowledge of the biotech/pharmaceutical industry.
  • At least five years of experience in drug development and clinical research in a relevant therapeutic area.
  • Minimum of three years in neuroscience.
  • Proven leadership in medical management, coaching, and team development for at least two years.

Additional skills include building external relationships, strategic planning, compliance, scientific integrity, organizational and analytical skills, and budget management.

Essential skills & abilities:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Comfort with technology and various tools/systems.
  • Travel approximately 20-30% required.
  • Valid driver's license and passport required.

Key Leadership competencies:

  • Understanding and execution of impactful medical strategies and data-based decisions.
  • Sound business judgment and leadership mindset.
  • Knowledge of AbbVie's therapeutic areas and products for coaching and scientific interactions.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with conflict management abilities.
