The Opportunity

The Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) performs anatomical pathology services under the supervision of a specialist Anatomical Pathologist and Charge Pathologists’ Assistant. The role involves 50% histology duties (embedding, sectioning, staining) and 50% gross room and post-mortem duties (handling, dissection, examination, processing of tissues). The MLT contributes to efficiency and quality in Anatomical Pathology.

Hours of Work

7.5-hour shifts; rotating days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Your Qualifications

  • Diploma of Medical Laboratory Technology or Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is an asset.
  • Certification or eligibility for certification with CSMLS as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with NSCMLT.
  • Minimum 1 year of Anatomical Pathology experience is an asset.
  • Experience with gross dissection, frozen section micrometry, and staining is an asset.
  • Strong time management, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of patient and family-centered care.
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence.
  • Flexibility to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Knowledge of technical, scientific, and legal aspects related to the division.
