The Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) performs anatomical pathology services under the supervision of a specialist Anatomical Pathologist and Charge Pathologists’ Assistant. This role involves 50% duties as a Histology laboratory technologist (embedding, sectioning, staining) and 50% working within the scope of MLT duties in the Gross Room and Post-mortem suite (handling, dissection, gross examination, processing of tissues). The MLT contributes to divisional efficiency and quality in Anatomical Pathology.

Hours of Work: 7.5-hour shifts; rotating days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Your Qualifications:

  • Diploma of Medical Laboratory Technology or Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is an asset
  • Certification or eligibility for certification with CSMLS as an MLT
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with NSCMLT
  • Minimum 1 year of Anatomical Pathology experience is an asset
  • Experience with gross dissection, frozen section micrometry, and staining is an asset
  • Strong time management, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of patient and family-centered care, diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence
  • Adaptability and flexibility in a changing environment
  • Knowledge of technical, scientific processes, legal acts, and regulations related to the division
  • Compliance with operational policies and protocols
  • Knowledge of specimen procurement principles and techniques
  • Additional language skills are assets
