Job summary

Scarborough Health Network (SHN) is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist for the GEN Laboratory. You will provide professional Core Laboratory services across SHN hospitals, supporting the nephrology and cardiac care programs with accuracy and safety.

You must hold a current CMLTO General Certificate in all five specialties. The role requires independent work, strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to SHN safety and patient care.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current CMLTO General Certificate of Registration in Chemistry, Microbiology, Histology, Haematology and Immunohematology.
• Ability to work independently in Core Laboratory.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
• Demonstrates commitment to SHN safety programs and patient care.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional Core Laboratory services and report to the Manager, Core Laboratory.
• May be scheduled at any SHN hospital based on departmental needs.
• Maintain high standards of accuracy, safety and patient care in all analyses.

Job Description

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Manager, Core Laboratory, you will provide professional Core Laboratory services. You may be scheduled at any SHN hospital based on departmental needs.

Requirements

• Must have a current General Certificate of Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologist of Ontario (CMLTO) in the five specialties - Chemistry, Microbiology, Histology, Haematology and Immunohematology
• Must be able to work independently in Core Laboratory
• Well-developed interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues and volunteers and other members of the community and public
• Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area.
• Demonstrates values consistent with SHN's Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
• Utilise protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards
• Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community
• Demonstrates excellent work performance and attendance record

Asset

• Recent experience in all five specialties: Chemistry, Microbiology, Histology, Haematology and Immunohematology
• Ability to speak another language is an asset
