Position : Medical Laboratory Technician

Location : 25 Sheppard Avenue West, Suite 650, Toronto, ON

Reports to : Medical Laboratory Supervisor

Schedule : 37.5 hrs / week

Pay range : $23-$24 / hr

About the position

The Medical Laboratory Technician reports to the Laboratory Supervisor and supports our Phlebotomy, Andrology, and IVF laboratories by performing procedures associated with the diagnostic and therapeutic treatment services provided by Anova Fertility & Reproductive Health. Responsibilities include collecting blood and other specimens from patients in a timely manner; checking the quality of blood and prepare specimens for testing while following established standards and practices; and maintaining patient result records, lab documents, log sheets, and chart results. Rotation on the schedule for long weekends and statutory holidays will be a requirement for this position. Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Explain process of specimen collection to patients
  • Plan carefully to ensure that procedures are performed efficiently
  • Conduct quality tests and carry out various laboratory procedures
  • Operate endocrinology equipment and hormone analyzer, as per protocol
  • Collect and store specimens in containers, at required temperature
  • Perform audits of equipment to ensure that this functions correctly
  • Assist with maintenance of equipment and cleaning of laboratory
  • Adhere to standardized infection control protocols
  • Identify abnormal patient conditions and alert supervisor, physicians, or nurses
  • Maintain patient result records, lab documents, log sheets, and chart results
  • Help prepare site for visits by certification and licensing entities
  • Use clinic’s computerized systems to collect and store data
  • Perform Andrology laboratory procedures as needed

Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year of experience working in clinical laboratory, specifically in drawing blood, using centrifuge and testing, as well as collecting, labeling, and shipping specimens
  • Current CSLMS or MLPAOcertification required
  • Documented training in all areas of clinical laboratory
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices
  • Working knowledge of relevant software applications
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
