About the Opportunity

Under management supervision, the Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) supports Pathology and Laboratory Medicine by performing functions related to pre and post-analytical testing phases, including specimen procurement, processing, data entry, media preparation, sterilization, clerical duties, and loading specimens on analyzers. Responsibilities may also include supply management, troubleshooting, and customer service.

Accurate patient identification and specimen handling are crucial. Duties vary based on operational needs and may require working rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and off-site locations such as long-term care facilities or private homes. Interaction with stakeholders and clients is expected, with strict adherence to safety, infection control policies, and professional appearance. MLAs must work independently, exercise good judgment, and provide excellent customer service.

About You

We welcome applicants with:

  • Recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent
  • Successful completion of CSMLS exams and current registration, or commitment to complete an accredited MLA program and obtain CSMLS certification within one year
  • Strong communication skills
  • Basic medical terminology knowledge
  • Attention to detail and manual dexterity
  • High accuracy in procedures and specimen handling
  • Adaptability to procedural updates
  • Basic computer skills; Meditech experience preferred
  • Reliable transportation for travel as needed
  • Additional language skills, especially French, are assets
