Job description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. The ongoing improvement of quality and safety is inherent in this position.

The Department of Laboratory Medicine, Pathology and Medical Genetics (LMPMG) is dedicated to enhancing patient care through high-quality laboratory services.

Reporting to the Team Leader, Chief Technologist, or designate, the Medical Laboratory Assistant performs laboratory procedures and clerical duties. Responsibilities include blood and specimen collection, sample preparation, distribution, storage, performing laboratory tests such as urinalysis with colour-coded dipsticks, and conducting Electro Cardiogram (ECG) testing as required.

Travel may be required for this position. Transportation arrangements must meet operational requirements in accordance with the service assignment of the Vancouver Island Health Authority.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience

Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program, and one (1) year of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid BC Class 5 Vehicle Licence.
