Job summary

Northern Health is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Assistant to support the Laboratory department. Under supervision, the Lab Assistant performs specimen collection, preparation and testing, and provides laboratory support functions.

The role may include inpatient/outpatient ECG and Holter monitor testing, explaining procedures, and routine equipment cleaning and maintenance. Ideal candidates are self-directed, efficient, and capable of handling clerical tasks in a busy lab

Qualifications

• Experience as Medical Laboratory Assistant.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Perform specimen collection, preparation and testing.
• Conduct inpatient/outpatient ECG testing and/or Holter monitor testing as required.
• Explain test procedures to patients.
• Perform routine equipment cleaning and maintenance.
• Provide related clerical and laboratory support tasks.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, the Laboratory Assistant performs specimen collection, preparation and testing, and performs related clerical and other laboratory support functions. Performs inpatient and/or outpatient Electro Cardiogram (ECG) testing, and/or Holter monitor testing as required, and explains test procedures. Performs routine equipment cleaning and maintenance.
