Interior Health is seeking an experienced and dynamic Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our Medical Laboratory Department at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, BC. About the Job

The Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) Laboratory aims to provide safe, convenient, respectful, and accessible laboratory services to our patients. Services include chemistry, hematology, microbiology, histopathology, cytology, and transfusion medicine. RIH is a tertiary hospital with a 24/7 operation and state-of-the-art equipment, serving as a regional referral site.

Medical Laboratory Assistants perform duties such as collecting blood and specimen samples from patients, preparing specimens for analysis, distributing specimens to departments and outside labs, operating related equipment, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), and performing clerical duties as required.

This is a Relief Full Time (1.00) opportunity until the return of the incumbent.

Qualifications
  • Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program, plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Canadian Driver’s License as required by the position
  • Ability to type 25 WPM. A 5-minute invigilated typing test, dated within the past 48 months from an approved institution, is required. Self-administered online tests are not accepted.
