Job summary

St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist for the Core Laboratory to join a dynamic team supporting Biochemistry, Hematology, and Transfusion Medicine.

The role requires strong technical competence, adaptability, and a commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will work across the Core Laboratory, rotate through stations, and participate in SOPs, QA/QC, and training.

Qualifications

• Active CMLTO registration in good standing.
• Recent hospital laboratory experience (within 2 years) in hematology.
• Proficiency with LIS systems (Epic, WellSky Transfusion, CareSphere, Remisoland Data Innovations, Unity Real-Time) and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing within the Core Laboratory.
• Rotate through workstations and support cross-coverage as needed.
• Prioritize workload to meet turnaround times, including STAT testing.
• Identify abnormal results and escalate as required.
• Prepare, authorize, and interpret laboratory results with accuracy.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Performpre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testingwithin their assigned discipline of the Core Laboratory.
• Rotate through all assigned workstations and support cross-coverage as operationallyrequired.
• Prioritize workload to meet turnaround times, including STAT and urgent testing.
• Identifyabnormal or discrepant results and takeappropriate action, escalating concerns toappropriate clinicalor technical resources.
• Prepare, authorize, and interpret laboratory results with accuracy and attention to quality standards.
• Respond to inquiriesregardingspecimen collection, test results, and result interpretation.
• Perform routine and preventative maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments.
• Adhere toStandard Operating Procedures (SOPs)and all components of the laboratory quality management system, including:
  • Quality control (QC) testing and assessment
  • Quality assurance (QA) activities
  • Incident reporting and non-conformance documentation
• Participate in the development, review, and maintenance of SOPs andvalidationdocumentation.
• Support inventory, material management, safety programs, andaccreditationreadiness.
• Participate in the training and mentorship ofnew staff, students, residents, and learners.
• Engage in test development, method validation, technical projects, and continuing education.
• Foster effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to support patient care.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Current registration in good standing with theCollege of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
• Recent hospital laboratory experience (within the last two years) in one or more of the following areas:
  • Hematology
• Demonstrated ability to work across multiple disciplines within a core laboratory model.
• Proficiencywith laboratory information systems(Epic,WellSkyTransfusion,CareSphere,Remisoland Data Innovations, Unity Real-Time)and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, team-focused approach.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Commitment to the hospital’s mission, values, and patient-centered care.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Experience in quality management systems, teaching, research, or method development is considered an asset.
