Qualifications

• Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) is required.
• Competency in Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine and Histology per CMLTO guidelines.
• Knowledge of Quality Control Programs and equipment maintenance.
• Confidentiality of patient information must be maintained.
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with patients, visitors and staff

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing according to established protocols in Chemistry, Hematology, and Transfusion Medicine (and Histology where applicable).
• Demonstrate aptitude and accuracy in testing, reporting, and interpretation within quality control/assurance standards.
• Contribute to a safe work environment and adhere to Occupational Health and Safety standards.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Medical Laboratory Technologist reports to the Laboratory Manager or designate and is responsible and accountable for laboratory testing performed according to established laboratory protocols in one or more areas of the Laboratory. The candidate will be scheduled in Chemistry, Hematology and Transfusion Medicine, and possibly Histology. The Medical Laboratory Technologist will demonstrate aptitude in Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine and Histology disciplines according to theory, technique, skill in performing procedures, knowledge of those procedures and the implications of Quality Control and Quality Assurance. The Medical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for delivery of care consistent with the vision and values of the hospital and the standards of relevant professional organizations. The incumbent must comply with the Occupational Health and Safety standards for the hospital and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION:

• Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) - required;
• Evidence of competency with respect to Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine and Histology as per CMLTO guidelines;
• Knowledge of Quality Control Programs and equipment maintenance - required
• Ensures the confidentiality of all patient information;
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment;
• Excellent technical and decision making skills
