Description

Emory Medical Laboratory's mission is to transform health and healing by providing high quality, cost-effective, innovative laboratory services which enhance patient health. We're seeking an enthusiastic and certified Medical Lab Technician II who will support the Mobile Prostate Screening Unit, attending community-based gatherings and events to conduct health screenings. This individual:

  • With supervisory oversight, performs various laboratory tests and procedures while adhering to standard operating procedures to assist in the diagnosis, study, treatment, or prevention of disease.
  • May perform tests in one scientific discipline or perform selected tests in multiple disciplines or areas provided competency is established.
    • Disciplines may include selected hematological, chemical, histological, immunohematological and microbiological procedures and microscopic evaluations on serum, urine, body fluids, and feces.
  • Operates and troubleshoots laboratory equipment malfunctions. May set up new equipment.
  • Prepares reagents as needed.
  • Performs inventory and assists in ordering lab supplies.
  • Responsible for quality control.
  • Documents corrective actions taken for out of range test values.
  • Evaluates the validity of test results; compares them to previous results and other laboratory data.
  • In complex cases, evaluates all information and determines whether test results should be released, repeated, or referred to a pathologist or to the appropriate individual(s).
  • Calculates results when necessary and reports results by phone and/or computer.
  • May perform venipuncture as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Shift Information:

  • Full-Time, Varied Shift, based upon scheduled events
  • Potential to work weekends, based upon scheduled events

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program or 60 college semester hours including chemistry and 13 months of training in an NAACLS approved program or two years of college and graduation from a 12-month military laboratory training program.
  • Two years relevant experience required.
  • Certified MLT (ASCP), MLT (AMT), or MLT (AAB) required.
