Job Description

Salary Range: $32.59 - $37.26

The Medical Laboratory Assistant supports pathology/histology staff by assisting Pathologists, Pathologist assistants, and Technologists. Responsibilities include specimen procurement, accessioning, cytology, frozen sections, intraoperative consultations, lymphoma protocols, tissue processing, disposal, inventory management, slide storage/retrieval, specimen sending, reagent maintenance, cassette printer upkeep, supply stocking, and grossing station setup.

Participate in quality assurance and improvement activities, ensure compliance with departmental procedures and accreditation standards, maintain specimen collection equipment, and adhere to health and safety guidelines. The role may involve prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling, contributing to a safe environment for all.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • MLA certification from MLPAO or CSMLS required
  • At least 2 years of histology experience required
  • Ability to perform morgue duties
  • Good housekeeping skills
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and quality systems
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards and regulations
  • Experience with pre-analytical functions (sorting, receiving, accessioning, centrifugation)
  • Ability to work independently within a team
  • Meditech lab module experience preferred
  • TDG certification preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Reliable attendance required
  • Other duties as assigned within MLA scope
