Salary range: $262,017 - $327,521. Salaries are determined based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

Role Impact

Medical Health Officers assess, monitor, and report on the health status of populations in the Interior Health region. They administer relevant BC statutes and regulations, support public health programs, provide clinical consultation, and collaborate with partners to promote healthy policies.

Reporting to the Deputy Chief MHO and under oversight from the Provincial Health Officer, MHOs are designated by the Lieutenant Governor of BC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and report on population health, advising senior leadership and the board.
  • Administer BC statutes including the Public Health Act, Drinking Water Protection Act, and others.
  • Provide clinical advice across settings and specialties.
  • Offer strategic advice in areas like indigenous health, mental health, and emergency management.
  • Develop and evaluate public health programs regionally and locally.
  • Build partnerships with government, community, and non-profit organizations.
  • Maintain a safe work environment, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Support health equity and inclusive policy development.
