About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Medicine and Clinical Operations and working within a co-leadership model with the Vice President of Zone Operations, the Zone Medical Executive Director is the most senior medical position in each zone. They are jointly accountable for strategic planning, and delivering a quality, accessible, sustainable, and integrated health system.

The Vice President Operations and Zone Medical Executive Director work as a dyad leadership team, combining clinical and operational perspectives to make decisions and implement initiatives.

Responsibilities include overseeing quality and safety, physician workforce planning, recruitment, credentialing, and physician leadership development.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to NS Health Executive Team and senior leadership
  • Lead development and implementation of operational and clinical strategies
  • Provide clinical leadership for major infrastructure projects
  • Ensure health services align with NS Health objectives
  • Foster collaboration across zones for effective, quality, and safe patient care
  • Oversee programs and services in the zone
  • Drive service delivery improvements and innovation
  • Implement service strategies in line with quality and sustainability plans
  • Integrate zone programs with sites and services
  • Develop and manage a multi-million-dollar operating budget
  • Establish performance management systems
  • Promote patient-centered culture and community engagement
  • Participate in medical, administrative, and Board committees
  • Support medical and dental learner placements in the zone
About You

Ideal candidates will have:

  • An MD eligible for privileges at Nova Scotia Health, with leadership training
  • Preferred: CCPE/MBA/CHE qualifications
  • 5-7 years of senior leadership experience in medical program planning and delivery
  • Experience in team engagement, mentorship, and operational planning
  • Proven achievement in service delivery improvement and innovation
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong human resource and financial management experience
  • Ability to work independently and lead effectively in a changing environment
