Job Description

Performs patient care under the physician's/nurse's direct supervision. Responsibilities include preparing patients for physicians, administering and recording diagnostic laboratory tests, and coordinating care to meet patient needs, including preparing, organizing, and filing reports into the medical records.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Collaborates with healthcare team members to coordinate and implement patient care plans; records reasons for visits and relevant patient information for review.
  2. Performs vital signs measurements, height, weight, and screening procedures such as head circumference, audiometry, and vision testing; documents findings in the medical record.
  3. Collects and assists in the collection of specimens, following protocols for infection control; completes requisitions, labels, and routes specimens accordingly.
  4. Performs and documents calibration of laboratory equipment; reports any inaccuracies to the supervisor.
  5. Performs electrocardiograms and phlebotomy as per provider orders, adhering to infection control standards.
  6. Assists physicians and nurses with procedures like lumbar puncture and pelvic exams, following protocols for infection control, patient identification, and proper procedure setup.
  7. Maintains cleanliness and organization of examination rooms, stocks supplies, and completes required logs and checks.
  8. Prepares charts for visits by ensuring all lab results and documentation are available.
  9. Performs clerical duties such as filing, insurance processing, and managing patient flow.
  10. Performs other related duties as required, considering all responsibilities as essential functions under the ADA.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant training program with certification OR 1-3 years of experience as a medical assistant, emergency medical technician, or certified nursing attendant with a valid certificate OR successful completion of Northwell Health Medical Assistant training program.

Additional Details

  • Availability to work Monday-Friday (8 am-8 pm), rotating weekends (8 am-5 pm), with 1-2 late shifts per week.
