The Medical Assistant (MA) is an essential member of the healthcare team, responsible for patient care spanning from six months of age through the lifespan. The MA will collaborate with an LPN and/or RN to deliver safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, educative, individualized, and goal-directed nursing care to patients and their families in the Surgery Center.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the admission process by escorting patients from the reception area, providing appropriate preparation and instructions, and ensuring patient privacy.
  • Assist in FEMTO laser procedures as needed.
  • Assist in sterile processing as needed.
  • Help in the safe transport of patients. Clean and remake stretchers using proper infection control procedures and operate stretchers to meet patient needs.
  • Under the direction of RN and/or LPN, obtain vital signs, assist patients with ambulation, dressing, and undressing.
  • Provide nourishment for patients under the direction of RN and/or LPN.
  • Assist in patient discharge procedures, including escorting patients safely from the facility to transportation.
  • Participate in unit housekeeping activities.
  • Properly dispose of bio-hazardous waste.
  • Assist in restocking supplies.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by RN/LPN.
  • Serve as a patient advocate.
  • Identify personal learning needs and goals, seeking guidance to meet them.
  • Maintain a proactive response to all situations.
  • Monitor and assess the physical status of patients through observation and interaction.
  • Provide appropriate instructions, training, and education to patients and family members.
  • Report and document all pertinent observations accurately.
  • Use supplies, equipment, and resources efficiently to contain costs without compromising care quality.
  • Follow universal precautions when providing patient care.
  • Show genuine concern and empathy to all customers, treating everyone with respect and dignity.
  • Maintain knowledge of all equipment and supplies, especially emergency drugs, supplies, and equipment.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to meet the needs of the center, accepting changes in assignment and schedule based on patient care needs.
  • Maintain accountability for customer satisfaction.
  • Seek guidance, direction, and assistance when needed.
  • Perform other duties as appropriately required or assigned.
Qualifications
  • Current State licensure as a Medical Assistant.
  • Minimum of one year of Medical Assistant experience; outpatient surgery experience preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ophthalmology experience preferred.
  • Sterile processing/instrument preparation experience preferred.
  • FEMTO laser experience preferred.
Compensation

Minimum: USD $22.00/hour

Maximum: USD $30.00/hour
