Job description

Summary:

Radio Western 94.9 FM is seeking a Media Events Coordinator to lead Radio Western’s involvement in community festivals and events throughout London, ON, with a focus on community engagement. The successful candidate will primarily help with building relationships with event organizers, attending festivals on behalf of Radio Western, coordinating live broadcasts, producing social media content, and recruiting & managing volunteers. The ideal candidate should be energetic, outgoing, highly organized, and should possess excellent communication skills. Additionally, the candidate must be comfortable working in alternating environments and eventually, with speaking on-air.

Time: 35 hours per week. This is an 8-week seasonal position, as part of Canada Summer Jobs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

These requirements are representative, but not all-inclusive, of the knowledge, skill, and ability required:

Operational Responsibilities:

  1. Liaise with festivals & local events to coordinate Radio Western’s participation as sponsor and/or promotional partner.
  2. Assist in writing and producing advertisements to promote cultural events & festivals.
  3. Ensure the implementation of on-air and social media advertisements associated with sponsorship agreements.
  4. Coordinate volunteers to be at festival booths and provide community outreach.
  5. Coordinate and create Radio Western promotional materials such as buttons, program guides, etc., to enhance the festival experience.
  6. Complete other assigned duties as needed.

Communications:

  1. Be the main point of contact and representative for Radio Western at festivals & local events.
  2. Assist with social media content creation– creativity is good!
  3. Assist with management and communications with Radio Western’s volunteers.
  4. Report any volunteer misuse/misconduct to the Station Manager.

Previous Experience/Qualifications:

  1. Experience in radio or other media industry could be an asset, but isn’t necessary.
  2. Excellent communication and time-management skills are essential.
  3. Familiarity with social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

Working Conditions:

This position will require the candidate to be on and off-site—both in the station offices on campus and in remote locations—and will require some evening and weekend work with frequent medium to heavy lifting. The candidate must also have access to a vehicle in order to transport station equipment.
