Job Description

About Celerity Craft

Celerity Craft is a Squamish-based marine technology company pioneering Dynamic Air Cushion Vehicles (DACVs) - next-generation amphibious trimaran platforms that combine energized air cushion lift/thrust with low-drag hull design for high-speed, efficient, and versatile operation over water, shallows, and land interfaces.

Our DACV-12 and scaling prototypes target significant reductions in energy use and emissions while enabling superior ride quality in challenging marine environments. We are scaling rapid R&D and prototyping toward commercial production in our local facility.

The Role

We are seeking a skilled Mechatronics Engineer to lead the integration of control systems, actuators, and operator interfaces for our DACV ride control and maneuvering systems. You will bridge mechanical, electrical, and software domains to deliver intuitive, stable, and safe vehicle behavior—from joystick inputs to advanced closed-loop control of fans, rudders, surfaces, and air cushion elements.

This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced startup environment, directly shaping how pilots interact with our innovative vessels (drawing inspiration from proven hovercraft joystick controls while advancing beyond them).

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and tune control systems including PID loops, with potential for LQR, MPC, or fuzzy logic enhancements for complex ride control (pitch, roll, yaw, cushion pressure, and wave disturbance rejection).
  • Integrate joystick-based operator interfaces (e.g., proportional analog controllers like Penny & Giles JC150 or equivalents) with actuators for steering, thrust vectoring, chamber/fan modulation, and ride stabilization.
  • Select, integrate, and test sensors (IMU, pressure transducers, RTK, etc.), actuators (electric, hydraulic, electro-mechanical), and embedded hardware for real-time feedback and fly-by-wire style operation.
  • Develop and validate mathematical models from data acquisition on scale prototypes and full-size test platforms; perform sensitivity analysis and gain scheduling.
  • Collaborate on prototyping experiments, data logging, and iterative refinement of hydro/aerodynamic behaviors tied to control strategies.
  • Ensure systems support safe, low-training operation with high passenger comfort at speed.
  • Document designs, test procedures, and results; contribute to IP and scaling toward manufacturing.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Control Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong experience with control theory (PID and advanced methods), real-time embedded systems, and actuator integration.
  • Hands-on proficiency in sensor fusion, DAQ, power electronics, soldering, and CAD (Onshape preferred).
  • Familiarity with marine/amphibious vehicles, hovercraft, or similar dynamic platforms is a strong advantage.
  • Pragmatic problem-solver who thrives in prototyping environments and can balance immediate deliverables with long-term scalability.
  • Eligible to work in Canada; P.Eng. eligibility in BC is a plus.
What We Offer
  • Competitive compensation and equity in a high-growth marine tech startup.
  • Direct impact on groundbreaking DACV technology with real-world deployment potential (commercial, defense, research).
  • Work in beautiful Squamish, BC - outdoor paradise with easy access to Vancouver.
  • Collaborative team led by experienced engineers and entrepreneurs.
  • Opportunity to work on dual-use platforms pushing the boundaries of sustainable marine innovation.
Location

Squamish, British Columbia (on-site/hybrid flexibility for the right candidate).
