Job summary

Schlemmer is seeking a qualified Mechatronics Engineer in New Germany to support and maintain manufacturing facilities while driving automation and technology projects. The role spans mechanical, electrical, software, and IT environments and focuses on improving machine uptime and developing new mechatronic solutions.

You will troubleshoot equipment, support automation initiatives, manage spares, and handle PLC programming and plant software backups, contributing to advancing manufacturing

Qualifications

  • BSc degree in Mechatronics or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years' experience in a PLC and computer programming environment.
  • 1-2 years' experience in software and/or electronic development.
  • Strong PLC programming knowledge (RSLogix 500/5000, Festo FST or CODESYS).
  • Robot programming experience with Fanuc, Yaskawa and/or Denso.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for assigned mechatronics and automation projects.
  • Conduct repairs, maintenance and troubleshooting on plant and manufacturing equipment.
  • Respond to equipment faults and support maximum machine uptime.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and attend to breakdowns.
  • Maintain backups of PLC programmes and associated plant software.
  • Conduct PLC and other software programming.
  • Facilitate wiring of PLC panels and electronic machinery.
  • Develop and build new mechatronics and automation facilities.
  • Support upgrades to existing equipment and identify opportunities for advancement.
  • Support various departments with their mechatronics and automation requirements.
  • Manage network infrastructure, production IT systems and servers.
  • Manage database development and development.
  • Ensure all technical documentation is completed accurately and timeously.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

Are you a qualified Mechatronics Engineer with hands-on experience in automation, PLC programming, robotics and manufacturing systems?

A leading manufacturing organisation based in New Germany is looking to appoint an experienced Mechatronics Engineer to support and maintain its manufacturing facilities while driving automation and technology-related projects.

This role is ideal for a technically strong engineer who enjoys working across mechanical, electrical, software and IT environments. You’ll play a key role in troubleshooting equipment, improving machine uptime, supporting automation initiatives and developing new mechatronic solutions within the manufacturing environment.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Take responsibility for assigned mechatronics and automation projects
  • Conduct repairs, maintenance and troubleshooting on plant and manufacturing equipment

  • Ensure all technical documentation is completed accurately and timeously
  • Manage project timelines and work within stipulated budget requirements
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
  • BSc Degree in Mechatronics or an equivalent qualification
  • 3-5 years' experience in a PLC and computer programming environment
  • 1-2 years' experience in software and/or electronic development
  • Strong PLC programming knowledge, including RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, Festo FST or Festo CODESYS
  • Robot programming experience with Fanuc, Yaskawa and/or Denso
  • Experience in machine automation, integration and controls
  • Computer programming experience - Delphi, LabVIEW, C# and/or ASP.NET advantageous
  • Windows Server management and IT infrastructure experience
  • Database development and administration experience, with MySQL advantageous
  • Strong mechanical and basic electronic knowledge
  • Project management skills
  • Advanced IT and Microsoft Office skills
