We are looking for a Mechanical Trades/Utility Coal Supervisor to join our Power Production team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Operations Superintendent, you will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of coal operations at the Lingan Generating Station.
Key elements of this role include:
- You will lead the Coal Services team and a Maintenance Team in the functions of coal unloading, coal hoisting, coal sampling and coal system maintenance.
- You will work effectively with the team on coal transfers, coal system maintenance and scheduling for the plant.
- You will be responsible for ash silo operation, maintenance and interaction with the contractor responsible for ash placement on site.
- You will manage safety, lead safety meetings, and ensure employees are adequately trained and motivated to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- You must be committed to the site safety program and pro-actively manage safety performance and culture.
- You will provide leadership, supervision and development of the Coal Services team, co-ordinate with other shifts and departments and maintain compliance with environmental regulations.
- You must demonstrate your ongoing commitment to and participate in the capabilities and leadership development processes.
- You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.

Qualifications:
- Education: A 2nd Class Power Engineer Certificate or Chemical Technology Certificate.
- Experience: Proven leadership experience within a coal facility.
- Safety Advocacy: Strong advocate for safety with a demonstrated track record of enhancing organizational safety culture.
- Additional Assets: Other Certifications, diploma, or trade qualifications are advantageous.
Skills and Abilities:
- Industrial Acumen: Experience in fast-paced, multi-faceted, service-oriented heavy industrial operations is beneficial.
- Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills and ability to function effectively in a team environment.
- Self-Starter: Proven organizational and analytical skills with demonstrated multi-tasking abilities.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong computer skills.
- Professional Development: Commitment to personal development and proactive development of coal services team skills.
