Mechanical System Engineer – Train Design
Alstom is a global leader in mobility, creating transport solutions such as high-speed trains, metros, and digital mobility platforms. We seek a Mechanical System Engineer to join our Train Design department in St‑Bruno, QC, Canada.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate customer requirements into engineering solutions across all project lifecycle stages.
- Provide technical input for design, integration, and support to ensure timely, budget‑conscious project completion while maintaining customer satisfaction.
- Analyze technical issues and collaborate with suppliers to develop and integrate solutions swiftly.
- Perform system failure analysis, troubleshooting, and develop integrated solutions in coordination with other engineering disciplines and suppliers.
- Analyze, clarify, and align system requirements with other disciplines and suppliers to create a unified technical view.
- Prepare operational and train‑wide system concepts derived from captured requirements.
- Support creation and management of train‑level technical documentation.
- Review system ICDs, identify communication issues, and coordinate with interfacing systems.
- Review verification and validation plans to ensure requirement adherence.
- Prepare, review, and support verification and validation activities (e.g., test procedures, test conduct support, FAI witnessing, train homologation support).
- Support system configuration management and documentation.
- Assist in transition to production.
Qualifications
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of practical experience in system lifecycle activities.
- Experience designing and integrating railway or similar transportation systems.
- Proficiency in system failure analysis, troubleshooting, and solution integration.
- Experience with Rational DOORS (asset).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Membership in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (asset).
- Willingness to travel occasionally within and outside Canada.
- Bilingual in French and English; knowledge of another language is an asset.
