Company Description
Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are undertaking the design, build, and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.
As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.
The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.

What is the project?

  • A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
  • Stations:
    • One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
    • Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
    • Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

Job Description
The Mechanical Superintendent plays a critical role in ensuring the successful completion of tunnel projects with OTG. They act as a vital link between the Plant Manager and the tunnel construction crew, overseeing daily operations and guaranteeing adherence to safety protocols.

What you will do:

  • Responsible for the supervision and implementation of mechanical equipment above and below ground.
  • Responsible for organizing plans and schedules of work.
  • Ensures materials, tools, and equipment are available for work completion.
  • Provision of instruction as required and enforces safety regulations.
  • Inspection of work undertaken to ensure it meets the codes, regulations, and standards required.
  • Checking mechanical civil drawings, specifications and documents for approval for constructions by the subcontractors.
  • Liaise with mechanical and civil contractors to ensure the coordinated design construction and commissioning of the works.
  • Carrying out safety audits on contractors, installations, maintenance, and equipment.
  • Completion of snagging items systemwide and hand back documentation.
  • Ensure prior to any works being carried out on site appropriate Method Statements and Risk Assessment are in place.
  • Responsible for the effective deployment of fitters, mechanics, and plan maintenance.
  • Responsible for the establishment and maintenance of mechanical hydraulic equipment in all tunnelling works.
  • Responsible for ensuring an adequate supply of material, tools, and equipment to ensure minimal downtime on works.
  • Provision of instruction as required and enforces safety regulations.
  • To comply with requirements outlined in the environmental management plan.

SPECIFIC SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To take reasonable care for the safety of themselves and of any other person who may be affected by what they do or fail to do at work.
  • To co-operate with OTG or any persons in the performance of their statutory duties.
  • Not to misuse or interfere with anything provided in the interests of health, safety, or welfare.

Candidate must also comply with requirements of the H&S Policy and co-operate to avoid accidents and ill health.

In particular, candidate will:

  • Read and comply with the local rules.
  • Behave in a responsible manner at all times.
  • Develop and demonstrate a personal concern for H&S topics of themselves and others.
  • Report all accidents, incidents, and near misses to their line manager or H&S manager as appropriate.
  • Report damage to plant and equipment to the plant manager.
  • Use only for which they have received training that plant and equipment and authorization.
  • Ensure that any personal injuries are recorded in the accident book.
  • Propose to their line manager ways to eliminate hazards and improve safety in the workplace.
  • Attend health surveillance when instructed.
  • Set a personal example of safe behavior.

Qualifications

  • Proactive dynamic attitude with attention for detail and results drive.
  • Effectively communicate with client and client representatives to promote company image and give confidence of supervisory skills.
  • Main role is to aggressively push production ensuring all persons working underground are efficiently working. By managing the logistics of deliveries, ring building and TBM driving etc.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Canadian tunnel construction codes and regulations.
  • Proven ability to read, interpret, and implement construction work plans and drawings with accuracy.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills for effective communication and collaboration with crew members, subcontractors, and project management.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to provide clear, concise, and professional written and oral instructions and reports.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills to navigate unforeseen circumstances.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills for prioritizing tasks, meeting deadlines, and maintaining meticulous records.
  • Unwavering commitment to HSE principles, actively promoting a safe work culture, and ensuring strict adherence to all company policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency in relevant construction software for project management and reporting purposes.
