Job summary

Kiewit Energy Canada is seeking a Mechanical Superintendent to lead field supervision on major industrial projects in Alberta. You will mentor foremen and craft workers, organize work, schedule activities, manage costs, and ensure drawings and specifications are followed while maintaining client relationships.

This role requires 6+ years in mechanical construction with at least 1 year in a leadership capacity, strong safety focus, and proven ability to work with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years' mechanical construction experience with 1+ years in a Superintendent/Leadership capacity.
  • Must be a self-starter, highly motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong experience in leadership, safety, negotiations, planning, and contract administration.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and help to grow Jr. Superintendents.
  • Review and approve the balance of Foremen, journeymen and laborer's composite labor rates.
  • Manage contract administration (subcontractor/field management meeting for communication).
  • Develop a program to maintain good client relations involving staff on site.
  • Initiate and attend supplementary and regular meeting with client for problem resolution and planning.
  • Oversee and approve the monthly job cost updates and quarterly cash flow projections.
  • Review, approve and negotiate change orders; develop and implement a plan for project completion and turnover.
  • Maintain daily diary for record keeping purposes.
  • Ensure that all performance evaluations are completed in a timely fashion for direct reports.
  • Review and approve or reject promotions up to General Foremen.

Position Overview

As a Mechanical Superintendent you will play a significant part in the success for Kiewit. You will function as a field supervisor and may have responsibility for multiple Foreman, and/or laborers/craft workers. You with be responsible for the organization, work methods, scheduling, cost control, conformity with drawings and specification, workmanship, and assignment of work to accomplish the execution of the work, either directly or through General Foreman or Foreman. You will also work to maintain positive working relationships with clients, architect/engineer, suppliers, subcontractors, and jobsite staff.

District Overview

Kiewit Energy Canada is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. We are a major industrial contractor that work on projects that involve construction of oil & gas facilities such as oilsands processing, including steam-assisted gravity drainage facilities, upgrading & refining, midstream facilities, power & co-generation, terminal projects (ex. LNG, LPG, etc.), and major mine developments. We also have a Modular Yard facility in Edmonton, Alberta. Our engineering branch is a leading-edge division that offers innovative engineering services for our current projects and new pursuits in Canada. Our design services group are based in Calgary and Houston offering expertise in process, piping, mechanical, electrical and civil/structural disciplines.

Location

We are primarily looking for superintendents in the Edmonton, AB and Calgary, AB region who are able to work a rotation and potentially relocate as needed.

Qualifications
  • 6+ years' mechanical construction experience with 1+ years being in a Superintendent/Leadership capacity (preferfably working on industrial projects such as oil/gas facility construction, renewable energy-related construction, water/wastewater treatment plants etc.)
  • Must be a self-starter, highly motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand various processes regarding Kiewit's policies, procedures and software programs.
  • Ability to identify and resolve any problems that may arise.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong experience in leadership, safety, negotiations, planning, and contract administration.
