Job summary

D-Wave Quantum Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Production Technician II to join the Engineering and Production team in a fast-paced environment. You will assemble, test, and validate mechanical and electromechanical assemblies including gas handling racks and vacuum hardware used in advanced quantum computing systems.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, test, and verify mechanical/electromechanical assemblies per docs and safety standards.
  • Build and troubleshoot gas handling racks, manifolds, tubing systems, vacuum hardware.
  • Perform pressure/ vacuum testing, leak testing, and pump servicing.
  • Develop and improve manufacturing procedures and work instructions.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain to resolve issues and improve quality.

About the role

D-Wave is seeking an experienced Mechanical Production Technician II to join our Engineering and Production team. In this role, you will assemble, test, troubleshoot, and integrate mechanical and electromechanical assemblies, including gas handling racks, manifolds, tubing systems, and vacuum hardware used in our advanced quantum computing systems. Working closely with Engineering, Production, Laboratory Operations, and Supply Chain, you will help ensure products are manufactured, tested, and documented to the highest quality standards while supporting continuous improvements to manufacturing processes.

What you’ll do
  • Assemble, integrate, inspect, and verify mechanical and electromechanical assemblies in accordance with manufacturing documentation, quality standards, and safety procedures.
  • Build, install, and troubleshoot gas handling racks, manifolds, tubing systems, vacuum hardware, and related mechanical assemblies.
  • Cut, bend, route, and install tubing, fittings, valves, regulators, gauges, sensors, and other mechanical components.
  • Perform pressure and vacuum testing, helium leak testing, pump servicing, and other mechanical validation activities.
  • Support engineering validation builds, prototype assemblies, new product introductions (NPI), and engineering change implementations.
  • Design and fabricate jigs and fixtures to improve manufacturing efficiency and repeatability.
  • Execute work orders and maintain accurate production, test, and traceability records.
  • Develop and improve manufacturing procedures, work instructions, and test documentation.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain to resolve manufacturing issues and improve product quality, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Maintain production equipment, tools, and test fixtures to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality, efficiency, and manufacturing processes.
  • Provide general production and laboratory support as needed.
Required
  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of experience assembling complex mechanical or electromechanical systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with tubing, fittings, gas, vacuum, or pressure systems.
  • Experience with soldering, crimping, wire management, and mechanical assembly techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly instructions, wiring diagrams, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Experience performing pressure testing, vacuum testing, leak testing, and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Experience using ERP and work order systems; NetSuite and Jira experience is considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and safely lift up to 50 lbs.
Nice to have
  • Experience with cryogenic systems, high-vacuum systems, or vacuum pump maintenance.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites or company facilities, as needed.
