Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent - Maintenance & Engineering Department

Located in Nackawic, New Brunswick, our prehydrolysis kraft pulp mill finds itself in a picturesque area of the Saint John River Valley, a short drive between Fredericton and Woodstock. AV Group NB Inc. is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent for our Maintenance & Engineering Department reporting to the Maintenance & Engineering Manager.

Role Overview

Working in a pulp mill environment, reporting to the Maintenance & Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent will oversee all areas of the mill and will support plant operations. Working closely with the production, quality, and logistics teams, the Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent shall ensure that the departments are operated and maintained to the highest standard. The Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent will ensure that all health & safety, environment, cost, and human resources objectives are met in compliance with our corporate principles and guidelines, as well as applicable legislation.

Responsibilities

  1. Ensure that operation’s activities meet or exceed established mill standards;
  2. Ensure the mill activities meet or exceed established mill standards;
  3. Ensure all equipment and consumables are maintained to established standards;
  4. Ensure effective utilization of the operation’s workforce;
  5. Manage the crews training program;
  6. Participate in the annual budget process and control costs in the department;
  7. Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities in the departments;
  8. Ensure continuous improvement towards current best practices;
  9. Lead root cause analysis of issues and their elimination in the area of responsibility;
  10. Comply with Health & Safety and environment standards;
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Minimum of 2 years post-secondary education. Preference will be given to those with a Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or Technical background;
  2. Proven track record in a Kraft Mill and/or Pulp industry with 3-5 years of experience in a similar role;
  3. Previous mill experience would be considered an asset;
  4. Experience working in a unionized environment considered an asset.
