Job summary

Geotab in Oakville, Ontario, is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support the Production Team's goals. You will help develop tooling, harness specifications, and production jigs while learning from experienced engineers.

This 16-month paid internship runs Monday–Friday, 37.5 hours/week, with GEO Launch orientation in week one. Ideal candidates are pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree and have familiarity with SolidWorks and 3D printing.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing or completing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with SolidWorks is an asset.
  • Experience with 3D printing is an asset.
  • Hands-on experience with design, prototyping, testing and qualification is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support both Automotive and Production Team initiatives.
  • Assist with tooling and harness specifications.
  • Produce sample harnesses and production jigs.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure electrical soundness in designs.
  • Maintain engineering documentation and revision control.
  • Review assemblies and supplier drawings for compliance with requirements.

What you'll do:

The Mechanical Engineering Intern will be responsible for supporting both the Automotive and Production Team initiatives for Geotab. As part of the Production Team, you will assist the team that interacts with manufacturers, suppliers and internal stakeholders, specifically, as well as working on mechanical requirements such as tooling and harness specifications. In this role, you will be making sample harnesses and production jigs. You will work with internal stakeholders to ensure the designs are sound electrically and that all the product engineering requirements are met. This includes ensuring prototypes from suppliers are field acceptable. You will also be responsible for managing engineering documentation and mechanical drawings and ensuring updated revision control is maintained.

The opportunity:

16-month work-term beginning May 2027.

Full-time, paid internship: Monday - Friday, 37.5hrs/week.

Your first week at Geotab begins with 'GEO Launch' - a one-week Employee Orientation.

How you'll make an impact:
  • Create and maintain harness/cable assembly and cable schematics and other mechanical drawings per engineering requirements and in coordination with QA using SolidWorks.
  • WorkwithEngineeringtodefineobjectivesandcorrectelectricalrequirements.
  • Ensurealltestingandcompliance criteriaarespecifiedondrawings.
  • Assistwithbuildingengineeringprototypesperthedesiredspecifications.

  • Reviewsuggestedalternateconnectors/partsandsupplierdrawingsforcompliancewithrequirements.
  • ReviewFirstArticlesamplesforcompliancewithapprovedspecs.
  • Performstack‑up/toleranceanalysisandreviewonvariousproductsandensureaccuratedimensionalaccuracy.
  • Incorporatetoleranceanalysisand best practices into new designs and maintain lessons learned.
  • Assistproductionwith jig tooling and design.
  • Assist productionin variousothertasksasrequired.
What you’ll bring to the role:
  • Completing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with SolidWorks is considered an asset.
  • Experience with 3D printing is considered an asset.
  • Experience in all areas of design, prototyping, testing, and qualification is considered an asset.
  • Hands-on experience working with plastic injection mold tool design, including insert molding and overmolding, is considered an asset.
  • Proven ability to make independent judgments using sound engineering principles and techniques.
  • Engineering document control experience in coursework and projects to ensure compliance and consistency of documentation throughout the process.
