Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Expert (MSc or PhD) based remotely in Canada.

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineering Expert to contribute to an AI training project focused on engineering design, physical modeling, simulation, and computational problem-solving. In this role, you will apply advanced engineering knowledge to create, solve, review, and validate technical tasks across structural, thermal, mechanical, and multiphysics domains. You will translate physical requirements into analytical and computational models, develop simulation inputs, and assess whether engineering solutions satisfy relevant physical and design constraints. The position combines deep mechanical engineering expertise with intensive coding and the practical use of AI coding agents. You will help improve the technical accuracy and reliability of AI systems by applying rigorous engineering principles to complex problems. This fully remote, independent contractor opportunity is suited to an engineer who enjoys technical challenges and can deliver high-quality work autonomously.

Accountabilities:
  • Solve and validate mechanical engineering problems involving design, analysis, simulation, testing, and research and development.

  • Translate physical systems, design specifications, and engineering requirements into appropriate analytical or computational models.

  • Develop, modify, and evaluate engineering geometry and meshes for simulation and analysis tasks.

  • Configure materials, loads, boundary conditions, contacts, constraints, and solver inputs to accurately represent physical systems.

  • Conduct and assess engineering simulations across structural, thermal, mechanical, and multiphysics applications.

  • Evaluate simulation results and determine whether the resulting models, artifacts, and analyses satisfy applicable physical principles and design constraints.

  • Create, review, and refine technical engineering tasks used to support AI training and evaluation.

  • Apply coding-intensive workflows to develop computational solutions, automate engineering processes, and validate technical outputs.

  • Use AI coding agents as part of the engineering workflow to support implementation, problem-solving, and technical validation.

  • Identify errors, inconsistencies, or limitations in engineering models and propose appropriate corrections based on sound engineering judgment.

Requirements:
  • A Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, or an equivalent level of expertise supported by a strong understanding of applied mechanics and mechanical engineering fundamentals.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and the ability to apply them to complex technical problems.

  • Experience developing analytical, computational, or simulation-based engineering solutions.

  • Understanding of engineering design, physical modeling, simulation workflows, and technical validation.

  • Ability to translate physical requirements into mathematical or computational representations.

  • Familiarity with engineering simulation concepts, including geometry, meshes, material properties, loads, boundary conditions, contacts, constraints, and solver configuration.

  • Practical proficiency with AI coding agents and the ability to incorporate them effectively into engineering workflows.

  • Strong coding and technical problem-solving capabilities, with a willingness to work extensively with computational tools.

  • Excellent analytical reasoning, attention to detail, and the ability to assess whether technical outputs are consistent with physical laws and engineering constraints.

  • Ability to work independently, manage assigned tasks, and deliver accurate, well-validated results.

Benefits:
  • Fully remote work arrangement, open worldwide.

  • Compensation of $60–$120 per hour, depending on the engagement and applicable terms.

  • Independent contractor or freelance arrangement.

  • Initial 12-month contract.

  • Part-time workload of approximately 15 hours per week.

  • Opportunity to contribute to AI training and evaluation projects using advanced mechanical engineering expertise.

  • Exposure to challenging engineering problems involving design, simulation, computational modeling, and AI-assisted coding.

  • Opportunity to apply specialized technical knowledge to the development and validation of AI systems.

  • Start date as soon as possible.
