Job description
About Vitacore

At Vitacore, we integrate cutting-edge research and technology with a profound commitment to sustainability and innovation. Established in 2020, Vitacore is driven by our mission to develop transformative products and services that address critical global issues, ensuring ethical practices and effective outcomes for the betterment of humankind and the planet. Our journey began with a focus on the healthcare sector, where we became leaders in manufacturing recycling single-use protective equipment. Today, we apply our expertise and innovative spirit to broader challenges, developing advanced technologies, sustainable practices, and innovative manufacturing processes that redefine what is possible across various industries.

About the Role

You will own the mechanical realization of new products—from R&D concepts and prototypes to manufacturable, scalable releases. You’ll bridge research, design, quality, and operations: translating bench science into robust mechanical systems, fixtures, and assemblies; planning and executing validation; and partnering with Manufacturing to launch on time, to spec, and ready to scale. Success in this role means thriving in a fast-moving, small-team environment, flexing across disciplines (with awareness of biochemistry / fluids constraints) and tackling new problems every day to turn ideas into reliable products.

Responsibilities
  • Product realization: Convert R&D concepts into manufacturable designs (DFM / DFA, GD&T, tolerance analysis); generate BOMs / drawings / specs.
  • Mechanical & tooling design: Design / iterate parts, fixtures, and assembly / test tooling; select materials & processes (machining, molding, sheet metal, 3D print).
  • V&V & corrective action: Plan / execute tests with clear acceptance criteria; analyze failures and drive fixes (8D / A3).
  • Launch support: Enable pilot builds and ramp; troubleshoot on the floor; collaborate with suppliers on manufacturability, cost / lead time, and quality.
  • Process engineering: Map workflow / labor / equipment / material flow; design lean cells using 5S, standard work, Kanban, changeover reduction.
  • Data-driven improvement: Apply SPC / capability / DOE; track KPIs (yield, scrap, cycle time, OEE, takt, DPPM) and execute CI actions.
  • Quality & compliance: Build / maintain SOPs, work instructions, ECNs, PFMEA / DFMEA, control plans, process flows; align with NIOSH / ISO requirements.
  • Safety & ergonomics: Design workstations / fixtures that improve safety and reduce injury risk.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with Production, QC, Supply Chain, and R&D on process / product improvements; advise on equipment / layout; flex into adjacent domains (basic EE / controls, fluids / biochem).
Skills and Qualifications
  • Education / experience: BSc / BEng Mechanical / Mechatronics (or related; MASc asset); 3–5+ years in product development / NPI or manufacturing (startup / SME pace preferred).
  • Core engineering: Mechanics / materials; DFM / DFA, GD&T, tolerance analysis.
  • CAD & docs: Advanced SolidWorks / Fusion; drawings, BOMs, ECNs; rigorous revision control and accurate documentation.
  • Manufacturing & lean: 5S, standard work, changeover / Kanban, cell design; PFMEA / DFMEA.
  • Data & quality: SPC, capability, DOE; plan / execute V&V; use KPIs to drive improvements.
  • Tools: Minitab / Excel / Python (or equivalents); PLM / PDM; create clear SOPs / work instructions / flowcharts.
  • PM & problem-solving: Organize multiple priorities; turn complex data into actionable recommendations.
  • Communication: Strong written / verbal; effective with cross-functional teams and vendors; confident stakeholder presentations.
  • Safety / ergonomics: Designs that reduce risk and improve efficiency; adjacent literacy in controls / EE and fluids / biochem.
  • Mindset: Detail-oriented, documentation-driven; ownership, continuous learning, and bias to action.
Compensation
  • From $70,000 to $110,000 CAD per annum
  • Comprehensive medical and dental benefits
  • 3 weeks vacation
  • Tuition Assistance Program
  • RRSP Matching Program
  • Multiple company events throughout the year
