Job summary

Peter Lucas Project Management invites a Mechanical Engineer to join our team on a site-based northern mining operation. You will contribute across the full project lifecycle from concept and design through procurement, construction and commissioning.

This role is based on a 14 days on / 14 days off rotation. Flights are provided from designated travel hubs including Saskatoon and other hubs, with room and board provided while onsite.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGS.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical systems analysis, design and construction.
• Experience with vessel and tank design.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical process equipment selection (pumps, compressors, heat exchangers).
• Experience in medium to large-scale mining and mineral processing is an asset.
• Process instrumentation sizing and specification is an asset.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work independently and in teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform conceptual and detailed mechanical engineering design activities.
• Prepare equipment specifications, data sheets and tender documents for equipment procurement.
• Support procurement and expediting activities to facilitate project installation and construction.
• Ensure mechanical and piping systems meet technical specifications, applicable industry and internal standards, regulatory requirements and QA/QC requirements.
• Support small multidisciplinary projects from conceptual design through detailed engineering, construction and commissioning.
• Coordinate technical information requests during fabrication and construction.
• Participate in shop and site visits as required to verify approved designs, quality, code compliance and project schedules.
• Provide project management and supervision of contractors at site.
• Work closely with other departments and project team members to support successful project execution.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Engineering Supervisor.

What You’ll Do

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGS.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical systems analysis, design and construction.
• Strong knowledge and practical application of:
• ASME B31.3
• ASME BPVC Section VIII
• API 650
• Strong understanding of process, chemical and slurry conveyance piping.
• Experience with vessel and tank design.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical process equipment selection, including pumps, compressors and heat exchangers.
• Experience working within medium to large-scale mining and mineral processing organizations is considered an asset.
• Experience with process instrumentation sizing and specification is considered an asset.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships across departments.
